6/21/2020 - Willamette River, Boones Ferry Marina, Wilsonville, OR

Image
Time: 3.75 hours Distance: 12.44 One of the last sections of the Willamette near Portland we hadn't paddled. We put in at Boones Ferry Marina and paddled up-river to the dock at Champoeg State Park (same location where we stopped on our down-river trip of 11/8/2019). Lynda preparing to put in. A deer on the side of the river. Lynda taking a short break on the way back down-river.

6/14/2020 - Willamette River, Hebb Park, West Linn, OR

Image
Time: 3.6  hours Distance: 11 miles Hebb Park was finally opened from it's long closure for Covid-19 so we put in there. We'd planned to paddle up to where the Pudding River enters the Willamette and then paddle up the Pudding but we found that the Pudding was flowing too quickly to paddle up it. We scouted for suitable portage points but discovered more swift water up just a bit further so decided to just paddle up the Willamette instead. The day was pleasant and river traffic was light though the section of the Willamette we paddled wasn't either of our favorites. Lynda preparing to put in. Lynda scouting the Pudding River. The Willamette River The bridge over I5 and a rail-road bridge just after we turned back down-river. Lynda watching the ferry go across the river just before getting out.

6/7/2020 - Columbia River, St. Helens, OR

Image
Time: 3 hours Distance: 9 miles We put in at the marina at St. Helens again and this time paddled up the Columbia River along the East side of Sauvie Island. The current was not as strong as it had been a couple weeks previous but was still fairly swift. The weather was widely varied with sun at points and very heavy rain at others. We wore our suits so the rain was of no real consequence but it got quite warm when the sun was out. We passed a large number of Osprey nests and almost all of them had mated pairs with chicks. Lynda preparing to put in. Dane going by a small lighthouse just South of St. Helens. The rain. Lynda battling the rain. Dane paddling back down-river.
