Time: 1.7 hrs Distance: 4.35 miles Our first time kayaking in the Columbia River. We hit substantial swells which cut the trip short. Pre-beers the night before at Thunder Bay Brewing Sternwheeler going by Thunder Bay Brewing the night before kayaking Lynda stretches a little before we put in. A small sail boat club hits the water just in front of us. Dane takes a short break in a small bay isolated from the swells.

Time: 2.7 hours Distance: 8.5 miles Our first trip down the Columbia Slough. It was a good trip but you're always aware that the city is right around you. Noise from trains, cars and airplanes is constant. We went when the tide was low so the sides of the slough was several feet of mud but the paddling was easy and the sun was shinning (most of the time) so it was a pleasant day. Time: 2.5 hours Distance: 6.7 miles We didn't have a lot of time so we returned to the same route we'd last taken on the Tualatin River. It's a quick trip from our house, we like the river and it was a nice day. Even though it was a short trip we did finish putting our first 100 miles on our kayaks. California Condors have a hang out place near the put-in. There were around a dozen of them each time we went through. Lynda navigating through a tight point on the way down-river A picture showing the natural beauty of the river

Time: 3.25 hours Distance: 10.2 miles Our second day on the Tualatin River. This time we put in at the Farmington Bridge (where we'd turned around the previous trip) and made our way down-river approximately 5 miles. Again the river was beautiful offering tons of variety in paddling and scenery. Lynda getting ready to put in (but obviously not have her picture taken) Dane taking a short break on the water Sample river view from a kayak Lynda taking a break to pin our furthest down-river point before turning back Lynda heading back up-river as Dane takes a quick out-of-kayak break Lynda waiting her turn to get out of the water

Time: 3.75 hours Distance: 11 miles Our first trip on the Tualatin River we put in at Rood Bridge Park and paddled down-river to the Farmington Bridge then back. We really enjoyed this trip. The river moves gently but has a lot of diversity. You go right through populated areas but the green space is designed in such a way that you never see civilization from the river. A really nice river close to home. Lynda preparing to put in Heading down-river An old pump-house near the put-in Dane heading down-river Lynda heading up-river After-beers at Vertigo Brewing
